My art is a visual abstraction of what I call spatial reasoning, which is the ability to harmonize between chaos and order with the goal of discovering beauty. My training as an architect has taught me that the world exists in dichotomies of space (i.e. solid vs void, light vs dark, heavy vs light). I use these dichotomies as the foundation of my art and manifest it through the disciplines of painting, ceramics, and furniture making. The most exciting moments as an artist come when I discover themes or motifs between disciplines. Like a rope between cliffs, I travel between silos of thought searching for solid ground. The minimal line work of a painting can share a direct correlation to the simplicity of furniture; the texture applied on a ceramic vessel can inspire new line work on a painting. This cross-disciplinary approach to ideation remedies the stagnation of thought and stimulates art to adapt. Beauty is constantly evolving and art must evolve with it.
